Instead of tagging onto a two-year-old thread with an entirely different title, why not start a thread of your own? Very easy to do.

In the meantime, have you done a forum search? I think there may have been some discussions here already.

I say you should visit Maui next.

I like each island differently.

Big Island has my favorite beach of all islands (Manini'owali).

Maui has the overall upper hand on the other islands when you consider everything (at least for me).

Oahu has too many people but has the highest amount of good beaches (clearer water and stuff).

Kauai was pretty but not my favorite. Too much rain/clouds = not good. The Na Pali Coast was beautiful .. but there wasn't any beach that stood out for me.

EDIT - just realized this is an old old thread.

Ok, question time. Since I can fly free into HIK. What would it cost me for two adults and a six year old now days to BI, or even to one of the other islands round trip from HIK? Does one need advance ticket purchase on the inter-island runs in order to save money. Viper, your pretty god at this, your suggestions? Other have inputs' Thanks guys.

Island Air has $62 one way specials to Kauai and Maui and $72 for Kona for ages 62+ and 12 or younger. I believe that program ends end of year.

To fly a jet, sale fares usually really run $160 round trip and generally run $180+

Island Air is a prop plane and they are fine generally run $10 cheaper. They are on the loud side, slower, and don't have a great on-time record. You can also run into baggage restrictions in terms of weight.

Thanks Viper, appreciate the info. Yep, I meet the over 69 requirement too, ouch. So, my wife would be the one to pay full fair, as our daughter is six now. Fifty years ago, we left Schofield on a training mission to a base there on the BI. Don't recall the name, prior to our going to Vietnam. I am used to the old prop jets, etc. Boy, I'm old, what a memory, what a time that was.

Next trip over, was thinking of spending some time on the BI. Just need to figure what military facilities are on the BI that give us great discounts for lodging etc. Hope your doing well, Merry Xmas.

Check out the Kilauea Military Camp. It's located in a beautiful setting in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. They have some really nice cabins and a decent restaurant. Rates are very reasonable and vary depending on your rank category.

Sorry, TG, but I'm not military. I'm just familiar with KMC because I've been to a few events there and know people who have stayed there.

You can stay there if you aren't military so long as a family member who is (or was) sponsors you:

Also, Armed Forces dependents, current and retired Department of Defense (DOD) civilian employees including Coast Guard Civilian Employees, and sponsored guests. (Other personnel on official business with the Department of Defense may also be eligible.)"
