You will want to research both the East and West sides of the island, as the markets are different. Both continuing to grow, but some areas more than others.

Puna is known as the "affordable" part of the island with many new construction homes available in the 200s....The Kona-Kohala coast is also seeing plenty of new development and is generally regarded as the higher-end market. This is where the condo/resort developments are. There are many threads in the forum discussing the differences/pros and cons of each area!

Carasbreth, as long as you show up on time and sober every day you should have plenty of work. Seriously, that's the problem that most people have; they can't count on the person they've hired to actually be there to do the work.

Probably a lot of work for you in the Kailua-Kona area, but development is happening all over the island. Kailua-Kona more expensive for living.

Housepainting work is aplenty if you are reliable, honest and fair. Hell, I actually need my house repainted. Kailua Kona is a lot more expensive to live, but a lot more sunny etc. All depends on your budget and what you like.

okie dokie. you probably haven't read some of my previous posts, but i'm trying to purchase a lot up at volcano, big island. the first trip, my offer and counter offer were rejected. so, i'm flying up next week to look again. it's so beautiful. i, like you, want to get away but for different reasons. buy the lot this year, build next year and finally move by the third year, GOD willing.
