Hello,

We are considering purchasing a home in Leilani Estates. Located about halfway down from the front main entrance.
How about TV? Is satellite the only option which I guess is fine for TV but I would not like it for internet.
What options are available for high speed internet.

Thanks any info would be appreciated.

There have been a number of previous discussions on this topic which you can access via the Search function. I particularly suggest this option because a couple of people who were most knowledgeable in that area haven't been around for a while.

Thank you, I did do a search within this forum first and did not come up with anything or maybe just did not search correctly, thus why I posted. I will try and search on the internet or just call some utility companies direct and ask.

Hmmm. I just did a search on "Internet" in the Big Island forum and got 168 hits.

Here's one that's recent and pertinent:

As I understand your key choices down there are Hawaiian Telephone DSL, if they serve your address; Oceanic Time-Warner cable, if they serve your address; Aloha Broadcasting wireless, if they serve your address.

Hope that helps.

Yah, that was my thread. In the Hilo area, we have screamin' fast Hawaiian Telcom DSL, and we added almost free full-featured telephone service, too. We were going to forgo the landline and live cell-only like we did on our previous island, but we actually do use the landline once in a while. And I find it handy for finding my cell phone when I misplace it.

The DSL was installed before we moved to Hawai'i, with a free wireless modem (landlord let the installer in). All we had to do upon arrival was enter the security code, and we have been excruciatingly happy customers ever since.

However...I haven't a clue how it would work in Leilani Estates. Perhaps someone in that area will comment.

Yeah, that's the hard part. I don't know anybody in that area who has been active here in a while.

My point to the OP is that generalities won't do you any good, your answer will literally come down to your specific address. The Big Island is tricky that way.

Yup, which is why their search of the forums didn't work for them. Best to just call the company and ask them.

In some place like Leilani Estates coverage can vary from block to block. The best way for the OP to find out coverage at the house he/she is considering is to talk to the neighbors. We have friends who live there who can't get cell phone service at their house, but they can by driving over one block. I wish Leilani Guy would chime in!

Hey guys, miss me? We use Hawaiian Tel, Dishnet. Oceanic Cable is available too. Cell service is very spotty, on our block non existent except in the middle of the road, and only on a sunny day.
