Naw, that pic was from a movie. I forget what..but it's nice to make people think that's the real deal, lol. We DO have scorpions in Texas. Central Texas mostly. As kids, we used to put scorpions in containers and let them fight it out with the taranulas. Usually the scorpions won but occassionally there would be a taranula that would win. I never got stung by one until several years ago, I was helping someone clear the timber on his land...got stung by a mama scorpion who was carrying her babies on her back. Stupid friend stomped the scorpion PLUS her babies! I was more pissed at my friend than at the bug because all she was doing was defending her babies. The sting was like the worse bee sting ever! Took a day to quit throbbing. It was a brown type..I think the black type you see in pet stores are more south..never seen the black type myself in the wild..was told the black type is poisonous. Don't think so.

I would love to visit Hawaii some day. Am trying to convince the fiancee that we WON'T crash in the ocean and die *rolls eyes* she's been watching too much "Lost" tv series lately.

I still stand firm in saying that Hawaii has the absolute worst in insects. Everything seems to grow x5 it's normal size there

Default India has some Crazy Monkeys!

Check out this article my husband found today while reading Yahoo News

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20071117/od_afp/indiawildlifeanimalmonkeysoffbeat_071117080843 (broken link)

Here is what the article says:

GUWAHATI, India (AFP) - Troupes of monkeys are out of control in India's northeast, stealing mobile phones and breaking into homes to steal soft drinks from refrigerators, lawmakers in the region have complained.
"Monkeys are wreaking havoc in my constituency by taking away mobile phones, toothpastes, sipping coke after opening the refrigerators," Hiren Das told Assam state's assembly.
He said the primates were "even slapping women who try to chase them".
"It is a cause of serious concern in my area, with more than 1,000 such simians turning aggressive by the day," fumed Goneswar Das, another legislator representing Raha in eastern Assam.
Assam's wildlife minister, Rockybul Hussain, said the state government has formed a panel to study the problem.
Because of shrinking forest cover, monkeys have increasingly moved into cities elsewhere in India as well.
Last week, around two dozen people were hurt after monkeys rampaged through a New Delhi neighbourhood.
Last month, the deputy mayor of Delhi died when he fell from his balcony after being attacked by monkeys.
Efforts to drive out the animals is complicated by the fact that devout Hindus view them as an incarnation of Hanuman, the monkey god who symbolises strength.

Eh Brav, Hawaii only get standard issue size insects, no monsters, unless of course you count da cannibals, an no monkeys, wait, we get one monkey on Maui, Koko the talking gorilla lives out Haiku side I think. And the Koolau Mountains on Oahu still have wallabees, you know, small kangaroos.
Kind of off topic, years ago some buddies of mine were working over on Molokai, when the wildlife park was still going. The park had zebras, giraffes, wildabeast. These buddies were pretty new to Hawaii, had never been to Molokai before. They buy some pakalolo from a local guy over there, and relate to me the following story, as I'm tending bar at the old Outrigger on Maui, "Well, it's kind of late, we'ld had a few beers, roll up a joint, smoke it, and I figure we can take this short cut home. Well, we're pretty lost, and, I swear to God, I saw a friggin giraffe, not just one, but a whole bunch of em!!!!!" His buddy chimes in, "Yea, best weed I ever smoked in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!" They had somehow wandered onto the wildlife park!!

Aloha and okolemaluna

The rats in NY--ugh!! That's so disgusting.

The monkeys in India--I saw that on Discovery Channel a few weeks ago! They are pretty cute, but when you see them showing off or stealing food, it is easy to see how destructive they are. Crazy that they can't do much about it since they are considered sacred!

Now Jung...what wallabees on Oahu??? I swear, I can't leave my computer for a whole day without thinking you are going to start some trouble!

Apparently there are approx. 100 wallaby's that live on Oahu in some rocky type valley. Three were first introduced in 1916 to be part of a zoo or whatever but escaped.
