My wife has been campaigning to move back to Hilo. I think that financially it's a not-so-smart idea, but that's neither here nor there when dealing w/ a spouse! One of my many concerns is that even if we were able to qualify for Hawaii's expanded Medicaid coverage, which I think goes by Med Quest, would we be able to actually see a doctor? I know from past experience that many doctors stopped seeing new patients many years ago in Hilo, insured or no, and I'm wondering if anyone here has actually tried to access health care as a new patient under this program? It seems of scant benefit if you can't see a doctor, but maybe it's not as bad as I fear? Thanks.

I believe that all of the Bay Clinic offices will accept anyone with Quest that walks in the door, because they receive federal funding.
