All I know is that this lot that I own has been in the family since the 60's....and I believe the community has come a long way. I do read the news letters that are sent out periodically and that's what I go by in seeing the improvements through the years. Good luck to whoever may be moving to the BI.
There are a lot of properties for sale in Ocean View because there is nothing anywhere close to it as far as normal grocery stores, gas, etc. It is literally in the middle of nowhere and Mauna Loa is overdue for another eruption that could simply wipe the subdivision out. People bought the lots, sight unseen. It was simply a way for some "developers" to get rich selling a bunch of nearly worthless lots to people on the mainland - and the county bumped up its property tax revenue in the process.

Actually, there are two "normal" grocery stores, three gas stations, an ACE hardware, a couple of restaurants, a vet clinic, and a car parts store in Ocean View. And the lava probably won't flow from Mauna Loa while Kilauea is spewing. Yes, it is in the middle of nowhere, but it's not Mars!!

LOL well spoken - our Summer home on the mainland the closet town is 2 miles from our home and has (1) small convience store, a couple restaurant/bars, post office, city hall a couple tourist shops. No banks and no gas station!!!

Its about 40 minutes to the next size larger town which has a poplulation of 2,200 and an hour to a larger city where we actually can go major shopping for supplies if need be.

In that aspect Ocean view has more services and accessibility then where we live in the Summer... You talk about Mars.. it is wasn't for all the trees and lakes around our Summer home I would say Mars may describe where we live.

Gotta love it though - in the Summer our little town of 236 jumps to around 2,000 with all the tourist!

Fun place to people watch - but not as fun as Pahoa at times.
