This morning’s assessment shows lava flow activity continues along the edges of the front or leading surface lava flow however, the flow front had not advanced much since yesterday. The small breakout flows upslope from the leading edge along the north flank have also decreased in activity and had advanced approximately 20 yards in a north direction. Civil Defense alert for Wednesday Oct 1 8 AM - the first of two for today since the usual early morning overflight could not be performed due to a search and rescue mission...

Lava Flow Information Update 10/1/14 At 8:00AM

Incident: Eruption Information Update

This is an eruption and lava flow Information Update for Wednesday October 1st at 8:00am

Due to an emergency search and rescue mission this morning, today’s helicopter assessment will be delayed. However, the Hawaiian Volcanoes Observatory scientists will be conducting an over flight later this morning and an updated message will be provided when that information is made available. We apologize for this inconvenience and delay with today’s update.

The Railroad Emergency Route is NOT open to the public at this time. The public is reminded that no public vehicles, persons, or activity is allowed within the emergency route until the route is opened. The route will be opened for use upon the direction of Civil Defense in the event HWY 130 is unusable due to the lava flow.

HELCO crews are continuing with work in the Government Beach road area. This will result in the road being blocked and the access will be limited to beach road residents only to minimize disruption and delays to the operations.

The public is reminded that the flow is not visible and cannot be accessed from any public areas. Access to the Kaohe Homesteads subdivision will remain restricted to area residents only.

We would like to thank everyone for your patience and understanding and your cooperation and assistance is greatly appreciated.

And here's the Civil Defense update for Wednesday, after the delayed overflight... scattered and sluggish is the operative phrase of the day....

Incident: Eruption Information Update

This is an eruption and lava flow Information Update for Wednesday October 1st at 12:30pm

The Hawaiian Volcanoes Observatory scientists conducted an over flight this morning and report that activity on the flow front and leading edge remains scattered and sluggish. The upslope breakout remains active with scattered lava activity around the perimeter and it has advanced to the northeast and is presently approximately 30 meters beyond the original flow front. The advancement of this flow remains sluggish and currently all lava flow activity does not pose an immediate threat to area communities.

No evacuation is needed at this time and area residents will be given adequate notice to safely evacuate should that be necessary.

Civil Defense alert for Friday October 3 - just a little sprig of movement

Quote:
Eruption Information Update For 10/3/14 At 9:15am.

This is an eruption and lava flow Information Update for Friday October 3rd at 9:15am

Due to an ongoing emergency search and recovery mission, today’s helicopter assessment was delayed. An aerial survey performed later this morning shows that the flow front continues to be active and has advanced approximately 100 yards since yesterday. A very narrow finger at the flow front is moving along the tree line and the burning activity with that is producing a significant amount of smoke. There is no brush fire threat at this time and the burning is limited to the edges of the flow only.
