Here's the HVO map for Sunday afternoon 10/26

Quote:
The flow advanced about 190 meters (210 yards) during the preceding 19.5 hours, traveling completely through the cemetery above Pāhoa. At the time of mapping, the flow was 715 meters (780 yards) directly upslope from Pāhoa Village Road. The flow was advancing downslope between two intersecting steepest-descent paths and was trending toward the southern one. The flow will likely return to the original steepest-descent path about 300 m (330 yd) upslope from Pāhoa Village Road, if it continues.

HVO photo of the lava front on Sunday, only a week after it had been completely stalled for days. This is why it is so hard for officials to make predictions, because there are so many variables involved.

I feel awful for those that will lose everything because of this lava flow. I hope that they will at least get some relief from their insurance and be able to start over. Yet I must say, there is something amazingly beautiful about the lava flow and the pictures that are coming out. Like the ones that OpenD posted above. I just wish it could somehow go around everyone's homes.

Here is a video that was posted this morning on the Big Island Video News website.

It's really heartbreaking to see what those folks are going thru. It's obvious that these people are not rich so moving us not a option either.
Let's hope it doesn't do too much damage too occupied areas.
One question did it just cover the cemetery so that the plots are no longer visible?
Does anybody know?

I agree J. There is a terrible beauty to the lava. I was just looking again at the HD picture I posted earlier. When you zoom in on the texture of the black cooling lava, with the fiery hot lava right next to it, it's amazing!

Fortunately there's been enough advance notice so that there shouldn't be any injuries, but at least some homes and businesses are likely to be lost, and if the lava does cross Highway 130 there's going to be a lot of inconvenience and hardship and financial loss for people below the flow line, and it will probably last for a while.

But for those who believe in prayer, this would be a good time to focus your attention on the folks in and around Pahoa, because the lava has arrived.

Seeing the lava in the cemetery with tombstones encompassed in lava brought about the reality that Pele is going to go where she wants. But from a more personal level, the living can relocate; however, the dead are now entombed under the lava and cannot be visited by the living.

I can't imagine what those folks are going through. I grew up along the Ohio River, which did flood, but when the waters receded you could go back to your house and start the cleanup/restoration process. These good folks in Pahoa don't have that opportunity. My heart goes out to them.
