Interesting read of the First World problems billionaires have with millionaires in Kona:

It's the Billionaires vs. the Millionaires in This Hawaiian Resort War

I keep wondering why nobody over there has noticed that they've been building some pretty fancy houses on a pretty recent lava flow. Geologically speaking and all, it's not a dead volcano yet. I think it's a lot steeper than the one above Pahoa, too, and should move a lot quicker if it does start flowing. That would cause a bit of a ruckus, don'tcha think?

I do like the picture of the house with the two wings facing the pool, one wing is the dining room and the other has a bed in the middle of it, but it just doesn't look like a good spot for a bedroom. Not sure what that's all about, but the lay out of the house is interesting and the pool looks nice. It might be interesting to build something similar, perhaps. Although, come to think of it, it probably wouldn't work around here or we'd end up with chickens in the house all the time.

Who cares of building on a lava flow when you have billions and make millions with it? Pretty sure the money is there to rebuilt the resorts better & bigger on any possible new flow (hey, no archaeological finds to preserve!)

Unlike in Puna where a non-permitted shack ate all the owner's resources and any lava burn bankrupts them. Kona Gold Coast is Beverly Hills on the beach where perfect multimillion dollar homes get razed and rebuilt for vanity reasons. And the sand is getting shipped in from China and Australia--I kidd you not.

They used to ship it in from Molokai, but that was the sands of Waikiki.

I used to know some folks that would have their coconut trees moved around (full sized in the ground ones) for parties. One of the trees was in the way of the dessert table, so they had it shifted and after the party, they had it put back. Kept the gardeners busy for awhile.

We spent a week in 2011 at that Four Seasons in the big suite overlooking King's Pond (the snorkeling lagoon).

That place is AMAZING. Everyone treated us extremely well.

Can't say enough good things about that resort.

It seemed like there was plenty of room for everyone and all the people around us were happy.

Through some luck we rent a high end place for about a month every year or so, the owners are cool and provide us access cards to a bunch of stuff. having said that, some of the other owners there are such complete snobs that it makes me wish I could buy one of the homes and rent it to riff raff....... that moment when you realize you are the riffraff .

With all the people homeless and living in poverty here, it's so heartening to hear billionaire mofo's complaining about beach chairs and sobbing about access to some pool. Maybe if you actually paid your taxes and stopped buying our elections, the real life problems that most people face would be lessened. I really hope Pele wake up and decides to take care of this problem-ridden resort herself.
