Hi all! Moving is coming close and one of my concerns is how to get from the loading dock in Long Beach where we are dropping off our vehicles, to the hotel for the night, and to the airport the next day. We will have 2 pets with us and I haven't checked into rules for having caged pets in the rental car.

Has anyone dropped off their car to be shipped and then made their way to the hotel? It's not really a choice to just take a cab because there are actually a few other things that we need to do in L.A. that evening before we fly out the next morning. So, we really need to rent a car.

I just did a quick search on Enterprise and they charge $100 for picking the car up in Long Beach (San Pedro) and dropping it off at the airport less than 24 hours later! So, I'm hoping for any advice on the best option for renting a car.

Thanks in advance!!!

I'd look into Uber.

Why not get into island mode early and hitchhike? JK.

Seriously though, go to the rental car company websites and look at doing a one way rental from your home city (and ones nearby) dropping off at your departing airport? This is what I did (rented in Auburn CA, dropping at Oakland CA). I paid $30 per day. I had to try numerous pick up cities to find my best rate.

I looked at one rental car company and it was $30/day also, but then with a $100 extra fee attached because of dropping it off at a different place. I guess I'll keep looking at other rental car companies. Thanks.

Try Avis. If you're a Costco member, be sure to make the reservation via the Costco Travel website.

Try all.sorts of.combinations of cities nearby where you can pick up. Also.look at every available class; occasionally your search will return a really low price on an out of class vehicle. I used to travel every week for work and got pretty good at using the websites to find interesting deals. Beggining and eno of holiday seasons they move vehicles around. I once had a Lincoln luxury SUV for $9 per.day picking up in Seattle and dropping in Sacramento. It was spring and they were moving vehicles South for the summer holiday season.
