Once you get into the 5.0+ category it generally gives you a good shake - anyone feel the earthquake?

Was a lazy morning so I was laying in bed here warming up with the sun and felt it. Shook for a good 6 to 10 seconds. Even caught wifey's attention who seems to mistake most of the shakers for me passing gas.

There was actually a second quake (2.8) about 5 minutes later.

Hopefully not a precursor to a larger quake. 5.1 or so is about as big as you want it to get - you can get serious damage with not much bigger than that.

It was more noise than movement up on the Hamakua coast. The computer monitor shook a little bit, saw a few ripples in the coffee cup, but not much else shaking. There was noise, though, sounded like a heavy wind going past.

I didn't feel a thing. I'm in Discovery Harbour and was awake and had my coffee.

Felt a single hard jolt at my office in Captain Cook. Yesterday's shaker right off the coast from Kealakekua shook about as hard but a bit more duration.

I think they finally determined it was a 5.3. I was in Hilo when it hit, on the ground floor of an old building. It sounded like the floor above me was going to come down. I was just considering whether or not I should make my way outside when it stopped. I immediately phoned the wife at our home 15 miles closer to the epicenter and she described how some of our artwork on the walls were crooked but nothing fell down. By comparison I experienced a 5.6 in Oregon in 1993 that did knock stuff off the walls, but then again we were much further from the epicenter and every quake is different.

It was a pretty good shake but fortunately it didn't last very long. I did hear that some ceiling tiles etc came down in the Hilo Target store.
