Nanawale does not permit yurts. They have a minimum square footage of 880 sq. Ft. plus a two car port. Black sand beach has a couple, the association is lax there. Kalapana gardens has no association so there are many interesting and unusual structures. It is extremely high risk for lava.

I think the minimum the Building Code allows is around 320 square feet for an 'efficiency dwelling', although I've not looked that number up so verify that number before building. That's a 16' x 20' structure if it's one floor. Also, be aware that the term 'neighborhood' may not mean the same thing when used to describe properties in Puna as it may mean elsewhere.

There was someone on this forum or on punaweb forum (Punaweb Home) with a user name of YurtGirl. I can't be sure but she either sells them or is involved with them in some way. Search for that username and/or PM her for more info.

Melissa from yurts of hawaii (google it - web site of same name) is yurtgirl on punaweb. She'll know more than anyone about them on the Big Island and has experience getting them permitted.
