My son is 15 and very outdoorsy, so we need
An area with other teens, hopefully with the same interests, skate boarding, trick biking, roller blazing, roller hockey, basketball.......actually
Anything with a ball!
I am hoping his interests will help him make friends.
Please let me know if you made your descion and why.
I would appreciate it very much.

We have a very fun roller hockey league in Kona! There is a rink at the Old Airport park. My 12 year old granddaughter has played for 4 years, going to the Regionals this coming weekend on Oahu. We are probably a little more laid back team than you are used to. It is also a mixed league, she is the one girl on team. Nice families, lots of fun. There is also a small skatepark at the Old A.

I asked the boys what they thought of this choice, based upon what an adult might think of. They think Waikoloa (not the Village) is the best choice since they said there weren't many bugs there. They also like being closer to some decent beaches. Something to think about.

Thank you so much. My son is happy now. This should make the adjustment a little easier.

A couple observations: there are two Waikoloa areas. Waikoloa Village is about ten minutes mauka from the Queen K highway. You can now find fixer uppers there under $300,000, and the lot prices have come down, though there are not a lot to choose from. You must be able to deal with occasional hot, dry winds with gusts exceeding 45 mph.

Waikoloa Beach Resort is makai of the Queen K. Prices are much higher and there is only one single family neoghborhood that I can recall, and it is extremely expensive. Condo prices now start under $400,000. Easy bicycle rides to the beach. Life on this part of the Kohala Coast is slow.

Kona is densely populated, and can be more voggy depending on the weather pattern. But it has a nightlife and much more to do. The best way to decide is to spend a few months in each location.
