Petsmart or Petco that's adequate for 3 to 5 goldfish. I would choose a mix of fancy/fantail and comet types.

Which tank should I choose. Should I buy one that come with a stand or can I buy a better stand from ikea or other furniture store?

Quack, I got a 40 gallon tank from Petsmart, on sale, for around $125. Only came with a hood light, no filter or anything. It's a great tank. I did not buy it with stand, I bought a nice table from Hobby Lobby. It looks pretty and does the job, and it was a lot less than the stands in Petsmart.

All that being said, you might want to post this under the fish forum instead of birds.

goldfish require 10 gallons per gold fish.
29gallon would be minimum or 3...55 minimum for 5...

contrary to popular belife they do NOT stop growing simply because you put them in a smaller tank, instead they just die young...
and goldfish are incredibly "messy" fish (high waste output) so need good filtration and REGULAR water changes 10% 2-3 times a week minimum.

I do agree you don't have to buy the stand with the tank, however, please remember that a glass tank full of gravel decoration and water is HEAVY...
if going with something NOT designed specifically to hold a tank PLEASE look for something solid wood, particle board (ie ikea furniture) will eventually start to warp and shift under the weight, and heaven help you if it gets even a little bit wet...

I have 1 of my 55 gallons on an old sofa table, its long, narrow and the perfect size...solid wood so nice and sturdy....
my other 55 gallon is on my large wooden dresser...

I do have a 10 gallon tank on a ikea bookshelf, BUT...I added a few extra strips of wood under the shelf it sits on to help brace it and prevent bowing, and I probably wouldn't want to go with anything much larger than that...I also laid down a paice of plastic and then one of those super absorbant mats under the tank to help catch any dripps.

check on craigslist and free cycle, ALWAYS see fishtanks on there, often with hoods filters, stands ect... for pennies on the dollar
