You never hear of people owning Mynah birds anymore (parrots)

When I was a child and teen, a long time ago, you would often see Mynah birds in pet shops and hear of people owning them. I haven't even seen a Mynah bird in many years. They are really messy bird, good talkers, but can be loud, so maybe that is why.

Part of the issue is they are no longer imported and that not a lot of breeders actively raise them.

When they were readily available as imports, they were so cheap (compared to many parrots) most folks didn't bother setting them up for breeding because they thought they would always be available cheap.

Except that they eat pretty much everything from cooked rice, to fruits, to worms, to raw meat, to potatoes, to bread, to fish, etc.

They are like parrots, they talk, smart, etc., except that they eat alot more different type of food than parrots.

Don't get me wrong. I do like Mynah birds as they are very unique and fascinating. Haven't seen one up close in over 15 years. Not a very common bird in the pet/aviculture community.

They always reminded me of crows and ravens, rather than parrots. They do have talking ability, no? I think crows do as well, although not nearly as much as any of the parrots.

They are not parrots. They are distant cousins to crows and ravens. The reason people associate them with parrots is because they can talk, but so can crows and ravens.
