For the first time ever I have seen Robins here all winter long! Normally we don't see them in the winter here and they make their first appearance in the spring. Of all years they stay in the winter, we have had one of the harshest and coldest winters we have seen in years! I wonder how they are coping? Do they regret staying? Will they stay again next winter?

Also, how do birds survive with no water, food, with everything froze up? We have no snow on the ground, just has been unseasonably bitter cold for a very long extended period. Personally, I am over it!

Not that unusual, when I lived in Iowa and Nebraska you would sometimes see a robin in the winter. Most migrate but few for whatever reason stay. Can't say what the survival rate is.
