what kind of bird food can I buy for all kinds of birds? specifically for outside birds. I went to the store and this is the best thing I could find at walmart, is it dangerous if the wrong bird eats the wrong kind of food for them?
There are variety mixes which have ingredients that will be attractive to a large number of species.
Sunflower seeds will attract a lot of different types.
Cracked corn will bring in sparrows, finches and cardinals.
Safflower isn't liked by squirrels but doves and cardinals like it. I mention squirrels because most bird foods also attract them.
Nyger seed attracts finches.
A good suet will get you woodpeckers as well as most other bug eating birds, especially in colder weather. Unfortunately it will also attract starlings.
