Hey what's up dude. I was born and raised in Birmingham but I now live in Chicago. I would suggest either Southside or Homewood (though I don't think Homewood has a lot of bars / restaurants within walking distance). Both of these communities are urban, diverse, tolerant, civilized. Unlike much of the rest of the Birmingham metro area.

I've only been gone for two years, but I don't get back down south very much except for the holidays so perhaps somethings have changed, but I doubt it.

I too moved from Chicago (Rodgers Park, Downers Grove), several years ago. There are several nice places to live here. I was in medical research at UAB (THT, Cancer Center), and lived on Southside. It's very close to all the hospitals in the area. There are also several nice parks where you can walk Fido too. Contact me : mluehmann@aol.comif I can be of further help. t280, is a cross-town highway (from hell), something similar to Lake Shore Drive, only worse.

280 worse than LSD? Wow, things must've only gotten worse since I left. I live in Hyde Park and I'd hate to have to drive downtown every day (I use Metra & CTA to get to school and work).
