I've gone through almost every post regarding places to live in Birmingham, and was wondering about the Crestwood area in terms saftey, convenience to UAB etc.

I have to move back to B'ham for school.

I have checked out some of the Southside and Highlands, and have yet to find a place I'm comfortable with ( as most of these are old apts, they don't have W/D connections)

Incidently, I lived in Birmingham for about 2 years ( off of Valley Avenue no less ) Considering most of reviews about Valley Avenue area, I think I just lucked out in those 2 years. Going to school at UAB, I used to come home and leave at odd hours of the night and never had any issues with saftey. Not to mention I loved the convenience of the area to UAB, stores in Homewood, and never had to worry about traffic whether it was rush hour or not. But I'm not sure if I'm willing try my luck out with Valley Ave again.

Anyway, would appreciate any info you have about the Crestwood area.

I think the Crestwood area is great. I've lived here for 5 years, both of my parents grew up in the area 50-60 years. It's becoming more diverse as most of the senior citizens are dying or moving into retirement homes. Plenty of remodling of older homes, safe to walk your dogs at night, young families moving in, plus it really helps the City of Birmingham.

I'm so sick of people leaving and moving out down 280 or Shelby County.

I'd stay here a lot longer, but my husband just took a wonderful job in Las Vegas, so I'm saying goodbye to my Alabama in about a week.

Crestwood has been a very popular area lately. Lots of young people moving in and revitalizing the area. Obiously it's very convenient to UAB. Feel free to contact me directly for more info or help.

The area past Crestwood Boulevard seems okay, but there are no stores nearby. I'm used to living a few minutes away from a Publix or Walmart, Walgreens, Post office etc etc. So as much as I like the house, I'm still not sold on the location

I've lived in the Crestwood North Neighborhood since Febuary 2001 . I've found this sidewalk community to be inspiring and aspiring . Convenence is wonderful . With a new addition to our family my concern is with the public school system . Hope this helps .

I just moved to B'ham from Atlanta and we live in Crestwood North and we love it! However, we do miss the suburba feel. I feel like I live in the hood/city. This area is very diverse. I do desire more restaurants close by without having to drive downtown.
