You won't be happy here. I moved from Florida and just hate it here. This is a gossipy little baptist town. The Govt is corrupt and there are NO jobs. The school system sucks and I wouldn't subject my children to it. The races are totally segregated. The local hospital has a scary reputation for doing unneccessary proceedures and surguries. Ruby Tuesday is THE only restaurant in town. A small Winn-Dixie is about it for groceries. Even the Home Depot is tiny and not well stocked.

Did I leave anything out?

Yes you did. According to your two posts life is hell in small town Alabama. What keeps you there?

In our travels around the country we have found so much stereotypical putting down of this city and state that it's refreshing to hear someone from California describing what a good experience they had here.
Amen to that!

It's impossible to sell your Real Estate here. We're moving anyway before the town collapses into total chaos. I'll wait a few years and then try to sell my ranch as "a quiet retirement place". REAL QUIET!

Outsiders and businesses should avoid Alexander City like the plague. Nearby Lake Martin is VERY nice if you don't have to work and don't mind driving to Auburn to shop or eat at a decent restaurant.

Auburn is a good place to move to, as is Oxford, AL to the north. Good luck in your search!

Lucky You! Is that in California?

I just fired my current agent. He had one of my homes listed for $130,000 ( I paid $200,000 just 5 years ago) and wasn't even bothering to advertise it. My tenant told me that he didn't show the home once.

My ranch isn't even on the market. I put a $million house on it and will just keep it as a vacation place for now.

I'm looking at a lake home south of Lexington, KY and moving in the fall. It's a little remote, but the prices are very realistic.

Did you say you were moving to B'Ham? I like Chelsea and Greystone just east of town on 280. Very nice! although the traffic is getting kind of heavy.

Good luck...
