My mom's oncologist has recommended UAB for my mom's stem cell rescue procedure. I am wondering if anyone out there has had the procedure or knows someone who has or if anyone has any information about it. My mom's doctor hasn't been the most communicative about this procedure or what's involved. I called UAB, and the nurse was very nice. I would love to chat with someone who has been through it or with someone who took care of BMT or SCR patient. I will be staying with my mom for the duration of the process, and I'm curious about the demands on the patient and the caregiver.

Thanks in advance for any information.

I cannot speak to the procedure. However, I do know that UAB has a large support systems for families who must come from out of market. Best wishes to you and your mother in what is a very difficult time.

Thanks, I appreciate that. They let us know that we'd have to pay for housing prior to the transplant, but that housing would most likely be available after. Beyond that, I know very little.

Thanks for your response!
