I'm enjoying the progress around Brookwood Mall...also, Dunkin Donuts and The Fresh Market(our 2nd) are planned. I wish that those homes weren't across from the mall.

Brookwood has a done a good job of transforming themselves over the past 15 year. I agree about those homes.

It is not just those homes you see but a sizable neighborhood. It makes Shades Creek Parkway a true (work, live, play) community. Something everyone is trying to invent out of thin air. There is even a sidewalk in front of the mall. Let's get some sidewalks at the Summit before I get killed.
Anyway, either of you guys tell me what you would rather see where the homes are. I am not easily satisfied with what is half done here but I feel that Shades Valley from one end to the other is remarkable. Just think of everything that lines both sides and how many hundreds of offices there are and the two schools, then Brookwood Hospital hovering overhead. Talk about city planning. If every area could evolve as smoothly as this has we wouldn't have things like Greensprings and 280.
I love to walk the trail from Greensprings all the way to the Country Club and I embrace the area as my own but I live in the Heights and Vestavia is milking us for all the tax they can get . I don't think it's charm can survive that and the tornadoes.
Take care,
raj

I definitely agree about the entire stretch along Shades Valley/Lakeshore Drive. There is simply not much more room for anything else. With that said, the live/work/play idea along this road is quite nice, but I could see a more vertical building across from the mall... something along the lines of the new 24/7 apartments in Lakeview. At any rate, the entire Lakeshore corridor (from Birmingham to Mountain Brook) will look very nice in the upcoming years. It is probably going to be a better designed 280. The far western end (Birmingham), is all new which is great for the city. Gives it a new area for growth. If they could get the midpoint area (Wildwood) more updated and happening, the sky is the limit for Lakeshore.
