I thought about this for over a year, and in my opinion I think one or both of the formats would work in the Birmingham market.

Opinions please

Radio is so last century. By the time the traffic gets reported on air with that type of station, the problem is long gone. Repeatedly had that happen in the Miami market. I'd be driving along and a report would come in of a delay that I was supposedly in the middle of. Not.

There is enough weather reporting in Alabama to drown a fish. Sports? Knock yerself out. Thought it was already being done.

I had the radio in the van on for about 30 minutes a couple weeks ago. That was the workout it got for the past couple of years.

I thought WJOX 94.5 was all sports all the time. I've never turned it on at two in the morning though.

Sorry if I didnt make my original post more clear.

When I say a 24 hr sports station I mean where there is 24 hrs of locally produced programming like WFAN out of New York or 92.9 The Game in Atlanta.

Or when it comes to news something along the lines of WBBM, WCBS, KNX, WINS. 24 hrs news/weather/traffic

I think until we get professional sports of some kind it won't happen. Especially not on the level of what NYC or ATL have. We'd need pro teams of all the major sports to go along with college and high school coverage.

As far as weather, well were not much of a destination city either.

92.9 "The Game" has only been on the sports radio format since October. It hasn't even had enough time to even show a ratings record yet. I will be shocked if it is still sports radio 3 years from now.
I just don't see how it could make it with all of the avenues for news and information we have. I mean, I have several apps on my phone that give me instant access to almost live information. I have already read it, discussed it, texted friends about it and am tired of it by the time it gets on the radio.
