Apology accepted:>)
You have been in Birmingham a while. It may be a combination of your expectations when you came - personal and professional -, your constant (maybe even unintentional) comparison of everything to home and your perception on how your expectations were filled or not.
The past always looks rosy. I did not visit home for several years and went through total culture shock. The annual trip is pleasant as far as meeting family and friends is concerned. The rest seems to be getting worse - traffic, ethnic issues, rudeness towards strangers, even the food.
PS: Do you let other drivers zip in? duck!

I agree also that your apology is wholeheartedly accepted. I love NY too and understand that there is more culturally than anywhere in the world. It's impossible to compete with NYC from a cultural aspect.

We have it here but you must get active and seek it out:

1) Go to the symphony at the Alyce Stephens Center.
2) Go to the Birmingham Museum of Art.
3) Find some live music venues such as WorkPlay and try them out.
4) Go down to Five Points South and spend an evening bar/restaurant hopping.
5) Try the Alabama Ballet or Alabama Chamber Music Society.

WE are here to HELP people who have relocated from other areas. If you could tell us what your interests are, we will be happy to make suggestions for you..........

2001 we paid off 280 in Inverness - 850 1br, 1350 2br - clean, plus utilities; after I chased someone in the process of hitching our closed trailer with two bikes we looked for an apartment with garage. 3br/garage went for 1800 at The Henley. Gardenhomes in our neighborhood 3br no utilities go for 2000 and up.

There are numerous rental homes that can go over $2,000.

Will do. Thank you for the suggestions. Believe it or not, I have not been to any of the venues you mentioned outside of the Stephens center! I have to get out! :)
