Hi, my name is Robert. My family and I are moving to the Birmingham area this month for a job I just accepted. The job is located right off of I-65 exit 252. I would like to find some nice, safe apartments within a 20 minute commute radius. They also need to be in a good school district as I have a 12y/o daughter. I know Vestavia Hills is nice, but their schools don't run buses which is a must since the wife and I will both be working.

Looking for 2-3BR/2BA apartments, preferably under $900 a month but definitely under $1000. Any that include some utilities also a plus but not a must. Need to get a place in the next 2 weeks so any speedy advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

These are some of the apartments I am currently looking at. I think I have the school districts right. If anyone knows anything about any of these I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Hoover Area:
The Abbey At Wisteria Crest
Riverchase Landing
Royal Oaks Apartments

Oak Mountain Area:
Brook Highland Place
Wood Springs

I would say you'll be in fine in Hoover. Also, about a mile north of exit 252 on both Highway 31 and Columbiana Road, there are apartments that would get you into the Vestavia School System. Vestavia, Hoover, or Oak Mountain would be fine for you and your kids. Excellent schools, nationally ranked.

Well Hoover has had a controversy with almost cancelling their buses - now I guess they have a plan to charge for them, but it is better then not offering them at all like Vestavia does.

There's a whole bunch of apartments close to exit 252 in Hoover, as that is the dividing line between Vestavia and Hoover. I would avoid the apartments on Lorna Rd and/or stick to the HWY 150 side. (Lorna Rd. becomes 150 at HWY 31 in front of the Galeria and Crown Mercedes) and Hoover schools are good and well funded.

Welcome.

True. But with the apartments I mentioned on Hwy 31 in Vestavia, they would be within walking distance of the Elementary School, the Middle School, and even the high school.

Just a little bit of an update. Just signed the lease on my new apartment. Moving in this Saturday. Chose an apartment complex off of 280 near Valleydale Rd. The area seems to have pretty much everything I'd need on a daily basis close by so very happy with that. Just have to wait and see about the commute time in rush hour traffic. Thanks for all the help. Wanted to reply sooner but have been super busy with all the moving prep. Will update again in a few weeks.

Best of luck. 280 traffic can be a bear, but some changes were made recently which have helped the traffic flow at least a little bit. Also, if you are used to commuting in cities larger than Birmingham, it really won't be a big deal.

I second the suggestion of Royal Oaks of Riverchase in Hoover. I lived there for about 2 years until I moved to Louisiana, and I loved it there. They have a pool, tennis courts, workout room, and are close to alot of shopping and restaurants in Hoover. Hoover's school district is arguably one of the best in the state. My large one bedroom apartment was only $690 a month when I lived there last year.
