Birmingham officials are in talks to adapt the city's ordinances with hopes that ridesharing companies like Uber could be operating by Christmas.

At a Wednesday committee meeting, the Birmingham City Council voted to solicit comments on a ridesharing section of the transportation ordinance through Nov. 13. They could reach a decision at a special called committee of the whole meeting Nov. 17.

You are fooling nobody. You don't even try to disguise it your multiaccounting. Or if you do, you are just terrible at it.

Yes! Uber and other companies similar to it are needed within Birmingham. Hopefully, they finish a deal quickly.

Yes, having Uber, the bikes and getting the grant for the BRT line is a good trifecta for the city in developing a denser urban core and a better "face" overall.

Rafferty may be a hindrance, but they have had a tough time in Alabama altogether. Right now their site shows they are available in Mobile but not Huntsville and not Montgomery.

I have no idea how it will work. Your buddy Steve is the resident Uber authority. Maybe he will chime in to lay some friendly, relevant thoughts on the subject.

It's interesting that Uber made an appearance in Birmingham last year and then the Kim "the Cat Lady" Rafferty would be the main one roadblocking things. She really needs to be replaced on Birmingham City Council.

But let me be clear – This Council wants Uber. All Council members present at the September Committee of the Whole voted in favor of Uber.

Perhaps a Christmas present for the 'Ham.

If the ordinance gets unanimous consent, the council would debate the decision and possibly vote. However, if consent is not given, the ordinance would be pushed to the next council meeting on Dec.1.

Representatives from Uber said they had more input into this ordinance than previous instances. The company is also optimistic that the new code will fit their business model.

Additionally, if the company get approval on the ordinance, Uber has said it could be in Birmingham before Christmas.
