Pro football appears to be coming back to Birmingham, again. This time it is the NAFL. They haven't announced a coach or a venue yet, so this is still a bit far out for me to even think too much about. Need to get crackin' on that new facility...

Is city ready for another pro football team? NAFL owner unveils plans for Birmingham Freedom | AL.com

Quote:
Another pro football team is coming to Birmingham, and the league's president said he is committed to success in the city.
The Birmingham Freedom will debut in the spring of 2015 as part of the North American Football League. Other charter franchises will be the Columbus Flight, Hartford Merchantmen, Kentucky (Louisville) Thoroughbreds, Memphis Kings, North Carolina (Raleigh-Durham) Redwolves, Orlando Sentinels, and Virginia (Richmond) Crusaders.

That's cool. But I would just wish we can just go after an NFL franchise and be done with it. Enough with the endless minor league football franchises.

Maybe we could convince Bon Jovi to bring us the Bills...

That's out of the question. That franchise was sold to the owner of the NHL's Buffalo Sabers for $1.2 billion dollars. The Jaguars and The Rams are now the two teams most likely to make a move in the future.

Oh... Not possible - even jokingly. I would not see the Rams or the Jags moving here either. But I would hope Birmingham could move itself into potion of landing an expansion team maybe 5-10 years from now. I know expansion is not on the table right now.

It might be 15-20 years before the opportunity for expansion come around again. The Rams are in an aging facility and the jags are well...

I wish these leagues would leave BHM out of it.

WHEN THEY FAIL , PEOPLE THINK IT WAS THE CITY. We have always had top draw in any league. BUT, I doubt it with this one. WE don't need them.

That too. Maybe it is a pipe dream that never comes together. They were trying to get the USFL back together a while and were rumored to be taking it to Mobile, or some other city besides Birmingham.

Rams and Jags already looking at other cities especially rams since they are in the last year of the leasing contract with city and stadium. It will be 2 teams over seas before they think about Alabama cracks the top 10 cities for a NFL team
