Birmingham Council President on Uber: 'We absolutely want them in our city,' with caveats | AL.com

I'd say she's not going to get her way if Uber acts right.

Quote:
"The only concern or issue that we've ever expressed with Uber is that, at the time, they were not willing to get a business license to operate in the city, get liability insurance, and have their drivers submit to the city's background check," Austin said.
"We require that of every business in our city that transports people," Austin said. "That's all that we want, because we want to provide the convenience to our citizens and our visitors, but we also want to ensure that those conveniences are safe."

Birmingham City Council to meet with Uber on Wednesday - Birmingham Business Journal

Still the same sticking points...

Quote:
Council President Johnathan Austin said that following Wednesday's meeting, he hopes to have the issue resolved within a month.

In a video released last month, Austin outlined three areas of the city's transportation ordinance that must be met by all Uber drivers: a business licenses, commercial insurance and background checks.

is the council willing to change? I don't see how this will be resolved in a month if neither side seems willing to concede...

this isn't the only forum in which a user named "bigstick" has made similar comments about the city.

if you live in Atlanta, why do you care?

I saw a blurb on morning news that looked promising. The city attorney is looking over a proposed ordinance that would apparently satisfy both sides.

And then there's this...
