Seems like such a terrible location for a hotel and strip mall. Gonna be a pain getting in and out.

^ when i first moved to birmingham, there was actually a 4-story hotel on the site. i think it was the mountain brook inn. it does seem like an odd place for one.

7901 Crestwood Boulevard

It's the site of the old Birmingham Inn, I believe.

Yep. High profile site - right where I-20, Crestwood Blvd, Montclair and Montevallo all come together.

I feel like that is going to be a big boost for that area, which needs it IMO. Should really help all the different retail and restaurants in the area. They estimate it will serve 25,000 vets each year, which means a lot of additional people will be with them as well.

One can sense that the Crestwood area will be the next area in Birmingham to start seeing more development. I wouldn't be surprised if you don't start seeing some mixed-use development much of the former retail properties along the Crestwood Boulevard, Montevallo Road, and Montclair Road corridors surrounding the commercial district. Especially, once the VA outpatient clinic is finished and the owner of the former Century Plaza site begins to redeveloping that site.

Finally something is happening with the gas station at Richard Arrington / Valley Ave. Looks like a pretty nice mixed use development:

https://www.bizjournals.com/birmingh..._news_headline

"Birmingham-based Hydinger Stewart & Chew Commercial Properties LLC is marketing 2017 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. for lease or build-to-suit for retail and office space.

The firm has already received interest from parties looking to use the 25,000-square-foot site for single tenant retail, office or medical space."

Makes it even more of a crying shame that a storage unit building is going up next to it...
