I do think it is now in better hands, but unfortunately BRT won't be ready for the World Games it seems.

"He said the city is currently designing and building the BRT, and once it is complete, the BJCTA will maintain and operate the service. We previously reported the city hoped to have the project complete ahead of the World Games in 2021, but Martin said it likely won’t come online until spring 2022. He said the BJCTA will adjust its MAX service to complement the BRT’s 10-mile alignment from Woodlawn to the CrossPlex."

I don't think we should rush development for the World Games, but it is disappointing that 2 big projects in the city won't be ready for an event they could help with so much.
So damn frustrating.

The building that The Syndicate Lounge used to be in is finally moving forward with redevelopment it seems:

https://www.bizjournals.com/birmingh..._news_headline

“ The development group, Block 162 SW LLC, includes Maurice Humphries, president at LAH Real Estate, and 20 Midtown developer Dick Schmalz. The group signed a 100-year ground lease with property owners Anne Dahlene Lamkin and Ellen Dahlene Skipper in 2017, according to Jefferson County public records.

CCR Architecture & Interiors is the designer for the project.

Previously, plans called for the demolition of the building and construction of a new one on site, as we reported, but those plans have been changed to preserve the existing structure.

Current plans call for residential housing units to go on the top floor of the building and two restaurants and a spa are in the works for the bottom floor.”

Spa seems like a good idea - there’s not really one in the city center. Being in the medical district probably makes a lot of sense.

About time that building gets re-done - it's in a prime spot. Spa and quick service restaurants make sense to serve the hospital staff & visitors. Now if we can just get something going with Liberty National...

A hotel group from Georgia is planning to build a new 124 room Residence Inn on Grandview Parkway behind the Marriott. They also bought the Hilton Garden Inn in Wildwood and the Hilton Garden Inn in Liberty Park and plan to renovate both.

We should take bets on if Liberty National or the AT&T City Center will be redeveloped first. I feel like those two will be the last two major buildings in the city to be redone (assuming the Brown-Marx project really goes through).

Owner cleaning and stabilizing the last vacant tower on the Heaviest Corner! Possibly about to seek tax incentives. Could the historic Brown-Marx tower be about to kick off its redevelopment?

unfortunately, it says there are "no immediate plans for the property".

however, cleaning and stabilizing is a good sign... wouldn't be doing that if some type of redevelopment wasn't on the horizong.

The Southern Radiator and Cooling building at 206 22nd St. S. and 208 22nd St. S. was recently bought by Ward Neely who said he's planning "an extension of The Battery" which is across the street.
