Wow!

Even in a place where you pay half a million dollars for you house, you still have to get approval from a board full of overbearing neighbors to do something to your house. My next house will be 45 miles from this kind of absurdity.

Some people like it; some don't. Fortunately, you aren't being forced to live there.

I don't think anyone would like it until you have neighbors with tall grass, weeds and old sofas out front. Many if not most of the more beautiful neighborhoods would have this in place. Perhaps a price to pay for beauty.

Exactly. The rules are just there to ensure that property values don't tumble because 25% of the neighborhood lets the curb appeal of their homes go to crap.

Not everyone likes it, but most people appreciate the insurance it provides for keeping property values high.

Outside of Ballantrae, my investment in Pelham real estate, as well as others, seems like a zero sum game. Been here for 11 years plus, with no appreciation to speak of.

The same could be said for most places in the Birmingham metro area. Housing prices across the board are about where they were 10 years ago.
