I am having to replace my roof and need to choose a good roofing contractor. I didn't know anything about roof work until just a few days ago but I am learning fast. One thing that bothers me is the fact that my roof is pretty steep and I am a little too old to get up there after the work is done to try to see if the work looks like it was done right. And on top of that it seems to me that you might not know until months or even years later during a big storm if the roof is going to leak or if the shingles are going to blow off. Talk about buying a pig in a poke. Seems to me if you choose the wrong contractor you might easily get burned. Any opinions on local roofing companies would be appreciated.

Contact property management firms and ask around. Also, the zoning board may help you out with a list of authorized contractors and an inspection or two.
