And look who's coming! Maybe we'll find out how this interchange will benefit the Tennessee Valley.
Careful. Your bitterness is showing.

Taste the rainbow.

How Birmingham pulled off a billion dollar triumph! | ComebackTown

Quote:
At the same time, rapidly-growing Huntsville was flexing its collective political muscle and was making a big play for a new corridor – Corridor Y – to be routed near their city along US Highway 72, thus connecting Memphis to Atlanta on a North Alabama track.

Birmingham booster Joe Fuller, a local insurance executive, was then serving as chair of the Chamber’s Transportation Committee. He put it in vivid perspective early on. The re-routing of Corridor X through Huntsville would’ve essentially put the vast majority of the new road within the state of Tennessee, not Alabama. At a legislative committee meeting in Montgomery where the re-routing was being favorably discussed, Joe asked,*“What is this, a meeting of the Tennessee legislature?” He powerfully made his point and it was “game on.”

Hidden among all the recent great news affecting Birmingham’s amazing rebirth is the story of the long-awaited opening of I-22, or Corridor X. That’s a shame, because no single success in our recent past may prove to be more important and have greater long-term favorable impact on this region than the upcoming ribbon cutting on June 20.

Traveled through Memphis last weekend....signage off I-240 say " US 78 to Birmingham " which is true as I-22 doesn't connect into I-240 yet, but would be nice if they could change to " US 78 East to I-22 to Birmingham " or similar.

I think on the Memphis side, I-22 will be co-routed with the new Memphis outer loop, I-269, and will connect with I-40 to the east of Memphis. A very roundabout way to get into the city. Perhaps there are no plans to ever finish I-22 in Tennessee along U.S. 78.

Actually it will be co-routed with I-269, but it will head WEST to I-55 into town so as to connect to I-40, not on the east side. Not a foot will ever be built in Tennessee.

Let's not pretend the State of Alabama will do anything for Huntsville before it will for Birmingham. Although the demographics, population base, and (direct) accessibility is much more diverse and significant (size and economically) in the latter.
