Space downtown wouldn't be an issue depending on size. Assuming something along the size of Harrah's in Nola, a casino could easily fit within two blocks. Matter of fact, there are two directly adjacent to Legacy Arena. One of which is a parking lot, the other a one story warehouse. Should the casino be larger, there is plenty of suitable land in the Norwood industrial district adjacent to 20/59, acquisition costs notwithstanding. But regardless, downtown or race track area, I hope the decision is driven by a feasibility study and not a hunch.

I forget the source, but I remember someone posting awhile back that the Carraway development has been planning with a casino in mind for awhile now. Would obviously make that area an instant hit.

Yeah, this would definitely change a lot in Alabama and I’m sure plenty of developers would jump on an opportunity in Birmingham or on the Gulf Coast to build a world class casino and resort in the state.

An article about Legacy Arena and Protective Stadium..a couple things stood out

Legacy Arena

"Renovations include a new suite level, an upper level club area, enhanced food and beverage options, new seating, a 360-degree ribbon board in the seating bowl and refurbished lobbies, with a glass-and-steel façade."

Protective Stadium

The stadium’s main entrance will open onto a large open “event plaza,” leading to retail locations and restaurants that will function as an extension of the Uptown entertainment district."

Turning the plaza out to the street is a big deal for better visbility and walkability.

The ribbon banner will be nice. I wonder if they will be able.to squeeze in any more amenities on such a relatively small budget.

I was really hoping the BJCC would replace the center scoreboard. It looks dated and the video screens on it are pretty small.

The current scoreboard (newest) went up in 2015 paid for by Legacy Credit Union when they became title sponsor name of the arena

I mean what else is there to do.

Interior - new seats, new suite, upper level club suite, new restrooms makeover, remodel concourse, new food and drinks menu, remodel locker rooms, adding elevators, escalator and a huge stairwell from first to second floor. Plus the entire building will have wi-fi accessibility.

Exterior - Fresh new paint, dissembling the rest of the complex from the arena, adding a glass wall, new
and improved (three entrance doors instead of one) docking area for 18-wheelers/buses, and well as a huge plaza out from of the main entry gate.
