So does anyone actually see any benefit in the city paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to become a "world trade center"? Seems like a scam.

Great. I hope there is a nice turnout, good weather and some national attention for the event.

2016 population estimates for counties and CSAs comes out tomorrow around noon. Hopefully there will be some good news for the metro.

Ranked by attendance, here are Birmingham's largest events.

Eleven of the top 25 are held either at the BJCC or Legion Field. So much more could be done with a new/renovated complex.

Oh I don't know. I read that on another thread on here. I imagine it will be released to the media any minute now and an AL story will be pieced together shortly after.

Sooo, it looks like the CSA has been estimated to have grown 2393 people to 1,361,299.
And the MSA by 2560 to 1,147,417 which I don't understand, but so goes estimates I guess.

Montgomery and Mobile MSA's only grew by a few hundred, 359 and 202 respectrively. But Huntsville went up 4796, so a rocket kissing article from AL is incoming, I'm sure.

Metro Birmingham
2010: 1,128,937
2016: 1,147,417

Metro Huntsville
2010: 419,311
2016: 449,720

CSA Birmingham
2010: 1,343,899
2016: 1,361,299

Mobile and Montgomery were both pretty stagnant.
