Birmingham's city elections for 2017 (school, live in, dangerous)

This is shaping up to be an interesting election year in the city. Birmingham is definitely moving in the right direction, and if we get this election right, I think the sky will be the limit for the city. Here are a few candidates that are not incumbents. If anyone knows of others running, please add links to their websites. What do you guys think about the possibilities?


Woodfin for Mayor

I am intrigued by Woodfin for typical reasons...fresh face...young...not a career politician. What thay translates into as a mayor in real life, I am not sure.

I just hope we will sweep out all of the career politicians, and bring in people who really care about the city. I think Bell has done a decent job with the city, and is responsible for some great things that have happened, but being a politician for decades can cause a person to be stubborn and hard to work with. When it comes to the city council, we need young, fresh, and energetic leadership. I am just sick of division and infighting.

I hope no one of the old generation gets elected (except for Mayor Bell, I really like him). The old school democrat mentality is just as dangerous as the old, old school racists. I imagine they will mobilize, protest, and do everything they can do to keep REAL progressive ideas from filtering in. They'll grantstand in Council meetings and call folks ho-mongers and what not, and do whatever is necessarily to keep rebuilding of cool areas to take place.

Bring on the youth, I say. Except for mayor.

They need to be able to pay well to recruit some real talent. Unfortunately outside influence from conservatives who dont live in Birmingham put the kibosh on the pay raises the council voted for their successor's and/or themselves if they got re elected. As of now it pays like a part time job...because admittedly it is. But if the city is to take the next step forward they are going to have to change that.

As of right now, the pay raise still stands, but I think a bill has been filed in the state legislature to repeal it. Maybe it will die like it did last year.

Sad it is like that; actually it is pathetic. Nobody from outside of Birmingham should have a say on what goes on inside Birmingham.

He's a better option versus the Cat Lady, I mean, Kim Rafferty...
