Though there are lots of newer dining choices in Birmingham, dining around 5 Points does not seem "dated" to me. Hot & Hot Fish Club, Highlands Bar & Grill, and Ocean are 3 of the most awarded restaurants in the city, and are all within a short walk from 5 points.

It's so sad in these day of ages for a city, specifically birmingham to get any sort of press, regardless if it's made up or authentic. I just don't undetstand people train of thought. New Orleans, nashville, atlanta, charlotte, memphis, any large city in this country....hell even small cities and town get more love from people than birmingham. Why is it that birmingham can't having any good press? God can come down and say birmingham is a great city and some people would be like...."oh he just being nice...he must not have been to birmingham before"...SMH !!!

Probably worth pointing out that WSJ did a nice, long feature on Secret Stages just last month.

And here are some other cool mentions of late:

I guess what puzzles me here is that we have these mysterious posters with a handful of posts who come out of the woodwork every time Birmingham gets a positive mention. It's weird. Almost pathological. I mean, what's with the propensity to crap on just about any good news about the city and its turnaround? I'm guessing you guys aren't much fun to be around at a cocktail party, that's for sure.

Just ignore them and enjoy what your city has to offer. Those malcontents show-up whenever anyone says anything positive. They melt like snow when you ignore them.

Brilliant and simple advise. Please just report and then ignore trolling posts. Many of you can tell when it's a trolling comment vs just an opinion you don't like.

It's unique to Birmingham on CD: We get positive press, terribly unfunny / dumb troll accounts follow.

Our food scene's reputation is now well within the national conscious, you can't say it's not. We've gotten acclaim from all the big players consistently over the past few years, with many more assets to come online in the near future. I have met people while dining out from several states -- including up north and out west -- who had flown to Bham for a three-day weekend to eat (admittedly, they were the foodie types who take these sorts of trips but still, if that's our tourism angle, more than happy with that).

I enjoyed selling a weekend trip to our city to a lady from New Mexico I met at a conference a couple of weeks ago. She said she had heard some good things and was interested in the Civil Rights Museum. Yes, definitely come see it, and spend the weekend eating great food!
