Dreaming of new uses for Birmingham’s old industrial complexes | REV Birmingham

There seems to be a lot of growing desire in the City for adaptive reuse of major industrial spaces like Continental Gin Industrial Complex. The huge site looks to be Ground Zero for Birmingham push for more reactivating underutilized industrial sites.

I have a hunch this site will become Birmingham's most successful conversion into a huge mixed use development with retail, restaurants, live/work lofts, offices, performance venue, rehearsal spaces, recording studio, and another food hall.

This will trigger more projects of similar and smaller scope across the City with other underutilized industrial properties.

Couldn't hurt that Cahaba Brewing is there, one of the most chill places to hang out I know.

It doesn't at all. As a matter of fact, I believe that will be impetus to further efforts for revitalization of the whole site. Cahaba Brewing Co along with the other office tenants should be enticement to CREs (commercial real estate) to make this target to redevelopment. Nearby Avondale and Woodlawn neighborhoods are already exploding with redevelopment so the domino effect along corridor between Avondale Village and the Continental Gin site will definitely continue.

There's certainly a lot of potential there for something great. The last thing they need to do is start tearing the old buildings down. I remember an old warehouse in Philadelphia that was converted into somewhat of a flea market, but it was much more than that ... multiple floors, multiple vendors, and crowded with shoppers.
