Hello, Im looking to move to AL very soon. I've searched the treads and find only limited info on the Hueytown area. Im a single male in my 50's, retired and not concerned about schools. I'm looking for a smaller home and find plenty of inventory in my price range. I'd appreciate the feedback from the forum regarding Hueytown. Is it a nice place to live? Good community...fairly safe...thriving? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

I grew up in Hueytown years ago. The housing prices are very cheap because I think there are more renters versus owners currently. Most of the houses you'll see were built 40+ years ago and are typically going to be smaller homes compared to modern construction.

Crime is a lot higher than it was when I was a kid, but overall it's not a bad place to live. You can be downtown in about 20 minutes (unless there's a train in the way!) and traffic isn't too bad.

I'd suggest spending a day driving around Hueytown and then maybe go checkout other areas like Hoover, Trussville, Homewood, Vestavia. That way, you can compare the different areas and make an informed decision.

If you have no kids, I think Hueytown is a great place to live. It has a small town feel.

The crime rate in Hoover is definitely rising. Homewood and Vestavia are relatively pricey. I don't know anything about Trussville.

I actually live in Bessemer . . . at the point at which Hoover, Helena, and Bessemer comes together. I recommend the area but not Bessemer in general. We are called "Greenwood." The Hoover Galleria is 7 miles away, which takes you pretty much into the heart of Hoover. We are right off Exit 6/Morgan Road. Surprisingly, it is a rural area. People have horses, chickens, etc. Yet we are 15 minutes from the amenities of Hoover (except for the school system . . . ours is a failing school system).

Welcome to the area!
