I need to furnish a new house and don't have the patience to wait 10 to 12 weeks, or longer, for furniture. I've seen ads for Mazers but am wondering about the quality of the furniture there. Are there any other stores in the B'ham area that either stock inventory for immediate delivery or have warehouses close enough to provide delivery within a week or less? Also, while I don't like to buy upholstered items off the showroom floor, I don't mind buying tables, bookcases, etc. that can easily be cleaned and polished.
Also, can anyone suggest a good source for patio furniture? Thanks.

For patio furniture, try Summer Classics.

But there are fifty bazillion furniture stores around town. Especially around the Lakeview district.

RTG isn't bad for some things, but in general I haven't been impressed with their quality. Thanks anyway.

Is anyone familiar with Birmingham Wholesale? I've run across their name on several furniture manufacturers' sites.

Thanks for the tip on Summer Classics. They have some lovely patio furniture.

How about antique furniture stores. Any especially good ones?

Mazer - you can get a bargain but check, check, check before you buy
RTG - I just went through a number of unpleasant but successful conversations with them for a friend whose English is limited and was taken to the cleaners

Give me a bit more - what style, what furniture, what budget?

We just removed what my husband calls "gruesome Greystone" and replaced it with IKEA for time being.

I agree RTG isn't the best, but they do deliver quickly if that is your goal. And their quality isn't any worse than Mazers. We bought a front load washer & dryer from there, which has been good. But I was not thrilled with the quality of their furniture. We bought our dining table from Birmingham Wholesale and have been very happy with it. It wasn't cheap and it did take a couple of weeks to get it all in, but the quality is good. Good luck.

You really need to check into the Lakeview district of Birmingham. There are antique stores and furniture boutiques galore. My wife loves that area.

Default "gruesome Greystone"?

Before I respond about the style, perhaps I should ask about this "gruesome Greystone." For some reason it makes me think of a contagious illness.
Please tell me what it really is.

I happen to love contemporary design. Once upon a time, we owned a house with a MCM vibe. It was very 1960s Florida Space Coast.
This house is a far cry from that, and I can't do Eames here. It's more of a rambling country home; there's lots of stone, both inside and outside. The living & dining rooms would be suited to Louis XVI (but not XV)/ NeoClassical style. I'm also partial to Queen Anne, Hepplewhite, Thomas Sheraton, and Duncan Phyfe. Something casual would be better for the hearth room as well as the basement. I've been drawn to barley twist legs for the hearth room tables &/or the kitchen table and chairs, probably because they remind me of my grandmother's furniture. The master bedroom also needs furniture; what's in there now will go to a guest room. Budget is tough to answer. I pinch pennies but will pay for quality.

My original post was partially a reaction to learning that some custom furniture I ordered a while ago from NC has been delayed and won't be here for nearly three months, which is two months past the promised delivery. We have family coming to visit in May and I want their first impressions of our new home in B'ham to be positive...hard to achieve if there's no place to sit.

Try a small furniture store on 280, just a bit past intersection 119 and Huddlehouse. It used to be Southern Furniture.
About a mile further is Lee Branch Shopping Center - Past Perfect has consignment furniture but also pieces from shows.

You might check out Big Lots.. they sometimes have name furniture for a good price. Broyhill is the last one I saw in there.

They had a cute little vanity/dresser for $200 mol.. antique looking.
