Anyway, the mistake Top Golf made is to locate their new Golf facility too close to an area where it is considered normal to solve arguments with guns. And yes, it did affect Birmingham's image, I'm not from around and heard about the shooting too.
Tua Tagovailoa and a couple of his family and friends were at TopGolf a week ago, which was their second visit. If you don’t know who that is, that’s Alabama’s Heisman Finalist QB.

A lot of you guys have small town syndrome. Someone could’ve gotten murdered in front of a TopGolf in a city like Seattle, and people would still be at that same TopGolf the next day. You guys are still sweating over some dispute that happened a year ago. lol

You already know how some think of birmingham around these parts anyway. I just want to know what did birmingham do to these people. In one of my earlier post, topgolf san antonio, 3 people got shot in the parking lot. The one in good ole orlando got carjacked near their's. I don't think neither incidents hurt either city. It is what it is...

Nobody is claiming that one isolated incident is going to make TopGolf shut down. But when those events happen, people do think twice about going. The more often they occur, the more of a problem they will be obviously. If there was an incident there once a month, the people with disposable income would stop showing up. Thankfully there haven't been too many of these types of incidents in the Uptown area.

I think most people are aware that it was one relatively minor incident and aren't THAT concerned about it (though they may want to make sure they park nearby as opposed to 2-3 blocks away).

From all that I've seen, this TG location has done very well and met or exceeded expectations. So really, to say that this one bullet really had an effect is null. It's not like business is suffering. Everyone who goes into an urban area knows there's a little less safety in general so I don't think this negatively affected TG Bham at all. When I went, it was a great time and great facility so whatever assumed damage is water under the bridge now.

As an outsider, I concur 100%.

It is very concerning there are shootings in malls and that golf courses are getting shot up by thugs because it means there are hardly any truly safe places left where the hardworking, law abiding middle- to upper class citizens can spend their time off.

I know the feeling, there was a shooting in a mall called East Towne Mall which I used to visit at least once a week and it has changed my outlook on malls.

A wise man once said, "You can't control the wind but you can adjust your sails" or something to that effect.

You just have to make changes that include avoiding the riff-raff. No black friday sale is enough to convince me to go fight that crowd at any shopping mall across this country. Stay out of retail centers with big public parking lots at night if possible. Keep your head on a swivel (I'm naturally inclined to do that, so I often see potential threats before they happen).

That said, your risk of danger in Birmingham or wherever is definitely overstated by the media and others who are scared of their own shadow. Watch your back and you'll be fine.

Just read this comment online as Browns family is speaking... What's the deal with this?? Any truth to it?

"PLEASE TELL US DID HE SHOOT UP ERRON BROWNS HOUSE BEFORE GOING TO THE MALL AND GETTING INTO A CONFRONTATION WITH A GUN ? PLEASE VERIFY THIS FOR THE PEOPLE OF ALABAMA!WE WANT THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION?
YOU KNOW YOU CAN ANSWER THAT QUESTION YOURSELF!"

That was from a random person.

This is a very serious issue, and we should know the truth about what unfolded. Nevertheless, how many people around the country have any idea that Hoover is a suburb of Birmingham? I don't think it will affect the city's image much at all.

Bamadave...most anybody with a ounce of common sense knows this. Certain individuals really think that saying something that's kinda not true in order to perhaps convince other people from different places to think of birmingham in a negative light is what they do. It's been going on since 2010. As things started to look up for the city, now you have those with an agenda thinking I need to do something to stop this. This is one way of doing it.
