Actually Birmingham is one of three southeastern cities with a 6-way interstate entrance/exit points into the city.

"The opening of the I-22 interchange provides us with an interstate link to Memphis. Birmingham now joins the elite ranks of top Southern cities with what’s considered a near-perfect interstate infrastructure. Counting Birmingham, only three cities in the South will now be favored with six interstate spokes emanating from their city center.

Joining us in this exclusive club are Atlanta and Nashville. And here’s the key: no one city has more than six spokes. This bodes extremely well for future business growth and the long-term commercial vitality of the Magic City."

Well then they need to extend 22 through the city and have it join 280 somewhere as a limited access interstate for that coveted 7th spoke.

Wow, that's cool! I was just counting the actual number of interstates running through the city. 20, 59, 65, and 22, but I see how there are six spokes.

I actually feel bad for cities with no real interstate connections, because they'll eventually be choked to death by their own growth. There's only so much traffic surface streets and back roads can take.

Houston has 6 and Dallas has 7 spokes.

I'm fairly certain Texas isn't considered Southeast.

Huntsville suffers from this.

As far as Dallas and especially Houston I think so.
