We are obviously not reading the same article. Calling that stupid monument "history" means we obviously do not exist on the same plane of reality.

Good point, it certainly is not. Hopefully all of those items as well as renewing tax credits can get done. This would really accelerate the fight against blight and help raise revenue.

This is why you’ll continue to beg your GOP over lords for money...because you can’t seem to grasp that the rest of Alabamians don’t think like you on that subject and many others.

That's the game they play. They rig the system and hamstring the city so it can't legitmately pay its bills and then say, "oH lOoK, a dEm rUn cItY iS bRoKe"

What is hypocritical exactly?

From the U.S. constitution:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Does the Alabama constitution have the same language but replaces United States with Alabama and States with local municipalities?

The reason the GOP "fights federal control over how states do biz" is because it is specifically expressed in the Constitution.

This doesn't mean that I think our state government is run efficiently or anything, but the constitution doesn't dictate how local and state powers coexist, while it does specify the relationship between the states and the federal government. Equating the two is a strawman.

I am absolutely shocked that this bill was struck down by the Alabama House Judiciary Committee. That 25 grand must be dire to the needs of the people.

This is exactly why Birmingham will not progress. The Mayor and City Council are at odds with each other (I want to be clear that the Mayor is right and the Council seems ridiculous). That just can't happen if you really want to see anything big happen.

Look no further than Huntsville, where the city and county are all in lockstep. I'd go so far as to say Decatur and Limestone County also tow the line. It may be a 'fear' relationship, but a relationship nonetheless. This is the minimum needed for big success, at least at the beginning.

Birmingham is too big to fail, so there will always be things going on there. But to ever truly take that next step, these things will need to be remedied.

Yeah, I don't think that's the reason. Many cities (small or big), the mayor and city council members are not in agreement on every single issue. But it don't hamper the developments or needed priorities that eventually occur. For once, can we just stop acting like what occurs in Birmingham is only unique to Birmingham and nowhere else. Can Birmingham just do Birmingham. Why does Huntsville name always has to be mentioned with Birmingham.

smh

I think he was just giving an example of an area in the state that has been growing for the last few decades.

From the article:

Quote:
Councilors made that decision last month, claiming they’d been excluded from planning the city’s legislative agenda, and on Tuesday they approved a legislative agenda of their own — one that only slightly overlaps with Woodfin’s priorities.
That's a lot worse than "not in agreement on every single issue". It appears there are very few issues where they are in agreement.
