We just moved from Florida for family reasons. I am feeling quite homesick, much to my surprise, since we have no family that are left behind there. We were there 21 years, and I am wondering if anyone else has felt this way? So far, everyone has been really nice, but I am worried that I will not be able to get over the homesickness.

You are SO normal, bless your heart. Give it time...at least a year. I think you'll do fine!

Yes. I left Florida after 34 years of living there. We moved to Idaho though.

I look back everyday and sadly miss the 11 months of extreme summer heat and humidity, the wonderful hurricane season, boarding up the house 10 times a year, the exciting drives through intense traffic and even the daily stimulation of wild road rage.

Just my opinion.

I moved here after 30 years in Tampa, FL. Where did you live in Fl and where do you live now?

I've moved at least sixteen times. Homesickness, I found, generally meant that I was not yet fully involved in activities at the new place. My advice would be to explore - walk around interesting shops, find someone to show you a few sights, ask a friend to have a sandwich lunch in Highland Park, examine the cultural activities like the museum, concerts, UAB activities. Establish ties and pleasant places.

Also, with the internet it is very possible to keep up with events at your old location. In my case, I often know more about what happens in my birth state before my brother, who still lives there, does. There are also enough webcams around that you can easily get to see the weather wherever you want. If you maintain a level of local activities and actively try to keep in touch with your old place, you'll eventually find the desire to be constantly in contact with it dies out.

And yeah, we moved back to AL after 20 years in Florida.

People tend to love FL or hate it...I managed several business units in FL for a ten year period...

In my Tampa unit we had 11 employees and 10 were from Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania. Each loved it and had a single motivation for moving there....

"If I ever see another snowflake in my life - it will be too soon"....after they got used to the heat and humidity each loved living in Tampa which is a place I like.

Hopefully, as you enjoy the change of seasons that we have here, you will warm up to it as this is a beautiful aspect of Alabama...

I am homesick too, but for NY, as I just moved to Texas. So, you are not alone! I feel for you and I hope we will get through this! Keep smilin'!

Thanks, Gold dust - I will be thinking of you. That is a big move for you too. How many years were you in NY?
