Just a generality of course, but pretty darn true.
Do our peer cities with similar metro populations have those chains? I honestly don't know.

If you're looking to buy a new Rolls you are going to have to go to a city with a significantly larger metro. So it is entirely pointless to talk about if you also claim Birmingham has no business being compared to those same cities.

I'll admit I'm not the average person but no way would I live in the towns mentioned. Yeah I like historic Franklin but wouldn't want to face traffic anywhere you go. I imagine the other exurbs are worse.

Mountain Brook is adorable though I'd choose to live in Highland Park, maybe Glen Iris.

Most definitely not a Homer as I live 240 miles away. High end shopping does not interest me. Adorable houses, botanical gardens, and historical buildings interest me. Y'all don't know what you got.

Think Alpharetta, plano, frisco, southlake, franklin, roswell, compared to Homewood and Mountain Brook... Not where would YOU prefer to live, but where do you think the average person would prefer?

You mention traffic anywhere you go, it's not like Birmingham is immune to that. But yes, our historical archetechture and buildings are under valued. They are interesting but our argument is they don't bring actual value. No one is moving or staying in Birmingham because they have some nice historical buildings. They're interesting for someone not looking for career advancement or lots of "today" things to do. But Bham is great for people who like to stroll, who are stable in their careers, and don't desire the latest/poshest of things.

Meanwhile OKC is building the tallest skyscraper in the US. It's interesting the amount of boosterism on this forum. OKC is bigger than Birmingham and has half the number of pages on this forum.

Anyway, getting mentioned in Forbes is good. It makes Bham visible and who knows what can happen when this market crashes (probably next year).
