I know that I have mentioned new neighborhoods as a possiblity, but I do so love nice established neighborhoods with the landscaping and all, or the wonderful historic neighborhoods where the homes have been restored. Are there any in the Hoover area or close by?

I would offer Southside/Forest Park/Crestwood as the ideal area. Homewood, too.

Bluff Park is a nice historic area of Hoover.

There are a few new home communities in Bluff Park... as well as many charming older homes in the area along Park Avenue. Also a few new homes here and there throughout Bluff Park. We are new to the area and are enjoying Bluff Park & Hoover.

Thanks. It is always nice to have some kind of guidance. What size or bedrooms would you say are the ones on Park Avenue. I just love traditional neighborhoods. Is this along those lines?

I'm guessing 3/2 or maybe some 4/2s - older homes with big yards and trees. Guessing buiilt in the 40s-50s although there are some newer homes in the area too. There are some quite large homes along that street too. There is an elementary school and a community center on that street too. A large Baptist church (where people vote in Bluff Park also)

Not off Park but still in Bluff Park, a friend recently got her house registered as historic and has a landmark sign in her yard.

Bluff Park has many small businesses too including an incredible butcher - Mr P's.

Those are the types of neighborhoods I love. We were really looking for at least 4br/3ba. Do you know if those homes come with basements? We have no basements here, we have large attics. But more importantly, is it a neighborhood that you think will last quite awhile. We are so used to neighborhoods around here turning for the worst.

Bluff Park and Homewood are never going to go into decline. Homewood is a small city of 20,000 people with an excellent tax base, schools, police, fire and local government. "Bluff Park" is a neighborhood is located in several suburbs that have similar characteristics. An undeniable strength of the Birmingham metro is it has many fine suburban towns that are rock solid in terms of fiscal situation and local government services, including schools. This keeps these neighborhoods actually on the way up, rather than treading water or declining. What needs to happen in our area is for the City of Birmingham itself to turn around.
