Hello all.

My company has offered me a promotion that would require me relocating to Birmingham. Admittedly, I don't know much about Bham, I've only been there twice. As a 30 year old single professional, I'm looking to rent in a trendy, bar/restaurant type area near downtown where 20/30 somethings hang out at night. (Similar to Glenwood South, Boylan Heights or the Warehouse district if anyone is familiar with Raleigh). After reading some of the threads here, it appears most people live in the suburbs. What types of areas in Bham would you all suggest for someone like myself? My company has basically asked me to name my price to move to Bham, but I really love Raleigh and Bham is an unknown to me. Thanks for your time!

That's easy...Southside/Forest Park, particularly along Highland Avenue or Clairmont Avenue would be an excellent area to be. Lots of places like you describe, lots of different people, lots of new Condos, etc. Really a great part of town to live in.

Thanks. I'll take a look into it. They want me to answer by tomorrow, but I'm trying to push the decision into next week. Thanks again.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the restaurant scene, the music scene, and the general nightlife. We moved here from Chicago 15 years ago and were really surprised and delighted by what we found.

Nice, I used to live in the River North District on LaSalle in Chicago. I do miss the Chi...

Hi hdog!! I moved to Birmingham, Alabama from Denver, Colorado and it is a wonderful city. Granted, I've never been in Raleigh for very long so I can't offer any perspective on the differences, but Birmingham does have lots to offer. I lived in both the suburbs at one point (for a very short time, not really my cuppa) and then Five Points. We lived in Park Manor Flats, which is right across from Ocean and 26, just two blocks from the Five Points circle. Great, trendy little area. The majority of people I worked with and associated with also lived in Five Points (most of us ranging from 22-30). Good luck!!!
