It is not dangerous, having lived there before. There has been some crime in the past, which happens when you get a bunch of drunks concentrated in the same area. However, the offending nightclub was closed recently.

However, I wouldn't live in the five block area around Five Points because of all the night life. It's hard to get a good night's sleep there. Particularly with the Ladder company making runs at all hours of the night.

As I said before, on the other side of the Red Mountain Expressway, there are about 10 zillion really good apartments/condos along Highland Avenue and Clairmont Avenue. It's perfectly safe and a great place to live.

It just seems like the five block area is so close, that it's hard for me to understand how you could be so close to that area, yet not experience any of the commotion? I'm ignorant of city life, so please forgive me for seeming so. In comparison my wife is as city as it gets. She is from the city, and wouldn't live any other way if it weren't for me.

I'm a little worried about moving to that area. Of course I think that's natural for a variety of reasons. Mainly because i'm hearing different views. I realize though that you lived there for awhile, which I can appreciate.

Neighborhoods change quickly within a matter of a few blocks. The best solution is just to drive around and use your judgment. And let her decide. It's really her comfort that matters.
