I don't mind living in a wanna be "big city" small town and I don't have kids, so the bad education system isn't a problem. A 45 min. commute doesn't worry me b/c I'll be traveling alot anyway. I hear the "Southside" is a good area b/c of the clubs, bars and restaurants. But where in the Southside? I just need to know which areas should I take a good look at. Thank you.
You might look at some downtown lofts, the crime is not a problem except in a very limited areas....also look in crestwood neat houses kinda artsy very diverse group but nice old and redone homes.for southside stick east of 20th street or forest park Moderator cut: personal contact info

I recently moved from Southside Birmingham to Southwest Georgia. My wife and l lived in Park Tower, a nice condo on Highland Avenue. There are many affordable condos in Birmingham and Homewood. We lived within walking distance of Five Points South. If you are willing to commute (bad idea) then because of your race I would suggest moving all the way to Tuscaloosa, the Univ of Ala location if you don't pick Southside.

Birmingham can be cruel. Picking your neighborhood will make all the difference in the world. Send me private email on this forum for more detailed information.
