My wife and I are interested in relocating to Birmingham and have become very interested in The Preserve in Hoover. What is the general opinion/ reputation of that development?

We are also trying to uncover the 'bona fides' of the builders involved:

Byrom Building
Fargason Contracting
Gardner Builders
Historical Home Crafters
L & N Construction
Taylor Burton
Wood & Hastings

Does any one have any experience with these builders that they can share?

Thanks for any assistance.

It has a great reputation. It's more akin to a planned neighborhood as opposed to a subdivision. When my parents were building they almost bought a lot there, but in the end, they decided to move to Greystone.

The homes in The Preserve are priced from maybe 350K to about a million.

The Preserve is more like a planned development. It is highly touted as one of Hoover's top neighborhoods. There are 27 homes currently for sale ranging from $300,000-1 million

Info about the builders:

Byrom Building:

Byrom Building Corp is a residential and commercial building company that focuses on building homes and office buildings in the Birmingham area. Marty Byrom, the President of Byrom Building Corp has been building homes for 25 years. We are always looking at new trends and new designs for our office buildings and homes. Taylor Burton

Our company philosophy is to build quality homes, renovations, and additions that are designed to meet the needs of today's markets and those of the foreseeable future.

Wood & Hastings

A home is more than a place to live and store belongings; it is the center of one's life. It is the place where children grow up, relationships are strengthened, and a lifetime of happy memories happen. With these thoughts in mind, Wood and Hastings Construction, Inc. endeavors to build your home to perfectly fit your family's needs and lifestyle.
To accomplish this lofty goal, we work closely with our clients to build their dream home. There are many steps in building a home; lot selection, plan design, and construction. Wood and Hastings involves the customer during each phase of the process and carefully addresses their needs and desires. We follow up with the same philosophy for service after completion of your home. Providing the highest standard of service to our clients is very important to us. Whenever there is a request from the customer, such as an upgrade, change order, or any type of revision, it is taken care of efficiently.
Along with the commitment to treat our clients with honesty, integrity, and respect, Mike Wood and Bob Hastings offer the benefit of experience from over 25 years in business. This experience is also gained through our involvement in trade associations, prestigious special projects, and the community. Mike and Bob have both served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders. Mike serves on the Hoover Planning and Zoning Commission and is the current Chairman. Wood and Hastings has built scholarship homes for the homebuilder's association and a Hoover City Schools Foundation fundraiser house. We were selected by Cooking Light Magazine to build homes in their kitchen tour for two consecutive years. United States Steel commissioned Wood and Hasting to build their Information Center, a showcase of classical architecture, on the Village Green of The Preserve neighborhood. Other accomplishments include numerous Gold and Silver awards in the Parade of Homes and a feature article in Better Homes and Gardens' "Country Kitchen Ideas" magazine. Our community involvements include membership in the Hoover and North Shelby Chamber of Commerce. Wood and Hastings holds a State Homebuilders License as well as a State General Contractor's License.
Wood and Hastings Construction, Inc. would like to have the opportunity to make your dream home a reality. In realizing this dream, the selection of a builder is one of the most important decisions you will make. With our construction knowledge, business ethics, and our dedication to satisfying our clients, you can be confident that you have entrusted the right people.

All builders are in the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders. Taylor Burton and Blake Pittman of Taylor Burton companies and Marty Byrom of Byrom building are on the board of directors for the GBAHB.

The above information is from the GBAHB website Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders and most if not all of the builders have participated in the Parade of Homes that Birmingham has every year.

My husband and I just contracted to buy a home in The Preserve which is being built by Wood & Hastings. We are relocating to Hoover from the midwest and will be there soon. We too loved The Preserve and felt comfortable with Wood & Hasstings. We are very excited about this move and hopefully all will go well! Maybe we will be neighbors one day. Where are you moving from?
